![]() I've moved waypoints for trail intersections and parking lots because the GPS-recorded waypoint doesn't line up with the photo, and a properly-calibrated photo should be dead-on accurate. With some of the new high-res aerial photography, you can get better accuracy by leaving the GPS out entirely and just marking a waypoint on the photo (assuming your cache is next to a landmark visible from above). If they go shooting off all over the place, you should be suspicious of any results that use those data points. If they all lie in a nice tight cluster, your field average is a good one. I haven't changed the script or anything. It should have the in front of 3 of the names and 3 of the names should be unchanged. When I run the script, it only places the 'tilde' () in front of only 1 waypoint name. One benefit to using a computer mapping program to average a waypoint from a tracklog is that you get to see the points that the GPS was using in the field to do its internal average. This gpx file has 3 original waypoints and duplicates of each of the 3 waypoints for a total of 6 waypoints. ![]() It's interesting to let your GPS average a waypoint each time you go to maintain your cache, and then plot where those "GPS-averaged" waypoints lie in relation to each other. There are days when you've got lousy satellite geometry, and waiting 15 minutes just gets you the average of a bunch of lousy estimates.
